Solstice Canyon in Malibu offers beach vistas, burnt-out ruins and a perennial stream with a waterfall.

The most famous spot in Solstice Canyon is definitely Tropical Terrace, where you'll find the large Roberts House ruins and the waterfall. It is accessible by an easy, paved hiking path protected by the shade of towering old trees (this path also passes by the Keller House ruins).

But there's much more than just the ruins and the waterfall.

Dry Canyon Trail

This short path has an abundance of deer and birds. I saw fifteen deer on a trip in late September 2012.

TRW Loop and Sun Rise Trails

These two trails merge together. At the peak of TRW Loop is a picnic area and water tank. Go beyond the water tank and you can take the Sun Rise trail. It doles out great beach vistas, but to see them you'll need to surmount challenging, sun-drenched inclines. Sun Rise trail ends at Tropical Terrace.

Deer Loop

Keep going beyond the waterfall and you'll find a breathtaking trail that you may very well have all to yourself.
