Just call it the Valley.

Technically this is part of Los Angeles City, but the mountains separate a cultural separation. This is a region of one- and two-story buildings, strip malls and suburbs. Though it includes major studios, this wide expanse of grid-arranged streets is a residential sprawl. There are nightlife hotspots in relatively chic North Hollywood. And of course Universal City has Universal Studios amusement park and the CityWalk. But the rest is largely considered a hot and dry concrete expanse that combines the worst of suburban and urban living. The exceptions are some nice spots like North Hollywood, mentioned earlier, and also Encino and Sherman Oaks.
