This room was originally Dr. Fenyes' bedroom. A 1947 remodel of the room transformed it into an office and study for Consul Paloheimo. Here he received dignitaries and diplomats.
Consul Paloheimo had the full bathroom reduced to a small water closet, and used the space to install a library. Also, he had paneling applied to the walls and the floor refinished. The result is a decidedly more diplomatic feel to what was once a bedroom.

Baron Carl Gustav Emil von Mannerheim of the Finnish Army was the commander in chief of Finnish military from 1939 to 1944 and remains a national hero for his role in liberating Finland from Russia, and in the establishment of a new democracy. He was a regent of the new Finnish republic (1918 - 1919) and president of Finland (1944 - 1946).
Sibelius was a composer of the late Romantic era and his work was often tied to Finnish identity. His birthday is annually observed with special honors in Finland. Consul Paloheimo's ancestral estate adjoins the Sibelius estate in the Helsinki outskirts. The two families were long-time friends, and Consul Paloheimo's cousin married Sibelius. Sibelius was the first sponsor and enthusiastic supporter of the Finlandia Foundation begun by Consul Paloheimo.
