East LA is a vibrant Latino ethnoburb.
Few people visit unless they live there or have relatives. It is filled with money order, calling card and liquor tienditas. To the north are the Monterey Hills harboring some small wealthy neighborhoods. Despite this geographic boundary, East LA culture winds through the Monterey Hills and penetrates into Lincoln Heights and Highland Park at the far end of the San Gabriel Valley (and thus I include these as East LA). They are confined by the Arroyo Seco. Cross the Arroyo Seco and suddenly you are in a relatively affluent area. Alhambra is a buffer area where Latinos, Chinese, Whites and Cal State LA students are intermixed.
