Bee was involved with the Campfire girls and was an assistant leader. She was also active in the PTA. She was also artistic and hand-painted many items.
Ben was an assistant Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts although he had no sons of his own. He took Gloria and Lillian along on the Boy Scout camp-outs. He was very afraid of snakes and the boys found out about this fear. Of course, one night, they threw a small snake into our cabin and Ben wouldn't get out of bed until the boys came and got rid of the snake. He taught the boys how to swim without ever getting into the water himself. That is how much confidence they had in him. They learned to dog-paddle. This was in the 1930's.
